AAJA is currently planning a special service project day for all attendees as part of the 2018 National Convention in Houston, TX as a way to give back to the local community. Houston Food Bank
The Houston Food Bank is a non-profit organization founded in 1982 and is a certified member of Feeding America, the nation’s food bank network. The Houston Food Bank is America’s largest food bank in distribution to its network of nearly 600 hunger relief charities in 18 southeast Texas counties. Named top charity in Texas by Charity Navigator for financial performance and accountability, the Food Bank provides 74 million nutritious meals to food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers and other agencies, feeding 137,000 people each week.

Chinese Community Center
The Chinese Community Center (CCC) started as a language school back in 1979 but is now a social service agency that helps more than 10,000 families every year. The CCC focuses on immigrants, refugees, non-English speakers and low-income families. The CCC is a United Way of Greater Houston agency, a LISC Financial Opportunity Center, a HUD-approved Housing Counseling Agency and a NAEYC-accredited Child Development Center.

India House
India House was formed in 2008 by a group of Indian-American volunteers who wanted to serve the community by bringing free health and after-school programs to those in need. India House provides classes in language, yoga and religion. The charity group also works with county officials to offer free health and legal services for low-income families.

Asia Society
The Asia Society was founded in 1956 by John D. Rockefeller III to promote greater understanding of Asia in the United States. The charity offers educational experiences in the fields of arts, business, culture, education and political science. The group’s event center is just a few miles away from the convention hotel.

Daya
Daya offers counseling, legal services and housing services for women and children who are trying to escape domestic and sexual violence. The charity serves more than 300 clients and fields more than 6,000 calls every year. All services are free and confidential. You can donate your money, time or services.
