The Asian American Journalists Association joins press freedom groups calling for journalists’ rights and safety in light of incidents related to nationwide protests. Over the past two days, AAJA signed on to letters led by the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and the National Press Club calling for full protection of journalists as they work to cover and report on the nationwide protests.
AAJA’s mission is to diversify news organizations and news coverage, particularly in support of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) journalists. Fundamentally, we support all journalists in their right to do their jobs and call for their protection.
AAJA upholds the key tenet of the journalist’s creed, which states that “suppression of the news, for any consideration other than the welfare of society, is indefensible.”
