Wudan Yan is an independent journalist based in Seattle, WA. Wudan writes about science, health, human rights, and the environment. Her work has appeared in The California Sunday Magazine, Columbia Journalism Review, Harper’s, High Country News, Nature, The New Yorker, New York Times, NPR, Public Radio International, among others. Her reporting has been supported by the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, UC Berkeley’s Food and Farming Fellowship and the Institute of Journalism and Natural Resources. Wudan is also on the board of the Northwest Science Writers Association.
Shirley Qiu is the audience engagement strategist at the American Press Institute and the co-director of AAJA Women & Non-Binary Voices. Previously, she worked at The Seattle Times, where she focused on engaging audiences for the Features section and Sunday magazine. She also previously served as the AAJA Seattle chapter secretary and national advisory board representative. She graduated from the University of Washington with a double degree in journalism and international studies.
