Year in Review Google Hangout With Nielsen

With so much happening over the course of 2018, AAJA has teamed up with Nielsen to look back at the top trends and highlights of 2018 and get a peek at what’s in store for 2019! From Crazy, Rich Asians to crazy midterm elections and the boba tea craze, Nielsen and AAJA are bringing together prominent voices in the AAPI community to discuss and dissect 2018 on Tuesday, December 18 from 4-5pm PT / 7-8pm ET. We will also be looking forward and forecasting what’s in store for 2019.

andrew.jpgAndrew Chau is the co-founder of Boba Guys and Tea People USA. He has been featured as a top emerging business leader on CNN, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Vogue, and NPR. Prior to a career in Consumer Product Goods and corporate marketing, Andrew started and exited his first startup in 2011. Andrew is also a freelance writer and small business adviser with a column on Huffington Post. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from UC Berkeley. He and his wife Kelly live in San Francisco.

 

 

 

 

francis_laapff2018.jpgFrancis Cullado is the Executive Director for Visual Communications, a media arts organization that develops and supports the voices of Asian American & Pacific Islander filmmakers and media artists who empower communities and challenge perspectives. He began his service at Visual Communications as a Getty Multicultural Undergraduate Intern in 2002. Since 2010, Francis has worked with VC and their annual Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival through various capacities such as the Volunteer Coordinator, Festival Operations Manager, Development Director and Operations Director. He is a graduate of California State University, Long Beach with a B.A. and M.A. in Asian & Asian American Studies, with a focus on cultural arts and performances, history and human geography.

 

 

 

grace.jpgU.S. Congresswoman Grace Meng is serving her third term in the United States House of Representatives. Grace represents the Sixth Congressional District of New York encompassing the New York City borough of Queens, including west, central and northeast Queens. Grace is the first Asian American member of Congress from New York State, and the only Congress member of Asian descent in the entire Northeast. She is also the first female Member of Congress from Queens since former Vice Presidential nominee Geraldine Ferraro. Grace is a member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee and its Subcommittees on State and Foreign Operations, and Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies. Grace is also a Senior Whip and Regional Whip for New York, and a founder and Co-Chair of the Kids’ Safety Caucus.

Telly Wong is the Senior Vice President/Chief Content Officer of the IW Group. He creates leading-edge experiential and event marketing campaigns for such clients as McDonald’s, Lexus, HBO and Warner Bros. With an emphasis on cross-cultural and omni-channel campaigns, his work been recognized with honors by such leading industry organizations as PRSA, PR Daily and PR News. In 2016, he was named PR News’ Awe Professional of the Year. Some of his notable work includes producing McDonald’s B-Boy Royale, New York City’s largest annual breakdance tournament, and Verizon’s #freestyle50 challenge, a hip-hop talent search which was the brand’s top performing PR campaign of 2018. More recently, he created the world’s first projection mapping showtruck celebrating LGBT+ diversity for Jack Daniel’s and lead the Asian American marketing strategy for the surprise blockbuster Crazy Rich Asians. Telly is a graduate of New York University where he earned his BFA in Dramatic Writing with a double major in East Asian Studies.

Previously, she was a reporter for The Post’s “Fact Checker” and a government accountability reporter at The Arizona Republic in Phoenix. She is currently the Senior Vice President of the Asian American Journalists Association and will begin her term as the National President in 2019.
